Abstract

Migration is an inevitable part of globalization processes and a characteristic of modern societies. Slovenian teachers' attitudes towards multiculturalism have already been researched, but there is a lack of both national and international research on the pedagogical methods that teachers use when addressing the issue of multiculturalism in the classroom. In this research, we investigated the pedagogical methods used by teachers when addressing the topic of multiculturalism. We investigated differences in attitudes between genders, differences depending on length of service and differences in the subject teachers teach. We used a quantitative research method – an online survey. Our sample included 181 respondents. Teachers most frequently use the debate method when discussing the topic of multiculturalism in the classroom. They most often address the topic of multiculturalism in the context of the subject they teach. The sample of teachers is not representative, but the research findings provide insight into the pedagogical methods teachers use most often when addressing the topic of multiculturalism.
