Abstract

Contemporary pedagogical discourses highlight the importance of quality professional relationships between education staff and children/adolescents in primary schools for a comprehensive progress of the latter. In the article, we focused on measuring the relationship competence, which gives us insight into the individual components of these relationships. We were interested in how the primary school education staff assess the individual components of the relationship competence according to the profile and workplace in connection with work experience (period of employment). The article is based on the individual parts of the empirical quantitative non-experimental research, which was carried out on a sample of 121 educators from different Slovenian primary schools. The research has shown that the education staff assess their relationship competence highly and that there are differences between assessments of individual components of the relationship competence with regard to profile and workplace. The findings lead us to the importance of raising the professional attitude in pedagogical relationships, where self-evaluation, ability and competences for establishing and maintaining quality and controlled professional relations with all stakeholders in primary school environment are of particular importance.
