The Evaluation of Student Readiness for the Challenges of the Teaching Profession

In a broader European context, there is a contemplation of the progress in the teacher’s competence profile as well as of the effectiveness of the teaching studies in the acquisition and development of those competences. The research seeks to examine the importance and mastery of individual teacher competences of graduate students of Teachers’ education through self-assessment of possession of pedagogical-didactic competences, and self-qualification for teaching and the possession of social and individual competences for the teaching job. A semi-structured interview was conducted in three focus groups with 10 students of teachers’ studies from different fields: artistic, social-humanistic, natural-mathematical. The results of the research indicate the fears and doubts of students regarding certain pedagogical-didactic and social competences required for the teaching job, and the disadvantages of teaching studies in preparing students for the same
