Relation between Computer-Supported Homework Assignments Based on Knowledge and Examination Marks

Homework assignments have repeatedly been researched by various authors. There has been a great deal of debate about how these assignments should be structured in order to contribute their share to achieving better and more lasting knowledge, which is the primary purpose of homework assignments. About ten years ago, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Maribor, developed new software called ASDN for the purpose of homework assignments. ASDN enables automatic generation of individual homework assignments, as well as their distribution via e-mail, and includes automatic collection and processing of results. The program provides immediate feedback about an individual’s knowledge and progress to both the teacher and the student. My goal has been to achieve a higher quality of students’ knowledge and better examination marks in mechanics through homework assignments. Throughout the research, presented in the article, I wanted to determine whether my homework assignments really serve their purpose. First, I checked if the students who completed their homework assignments also achieved higher exam scores. I have found out that there is a very high positive correlation between homework and examination marks.
